Lions Club International is a service organization dedicated to the improvement of the quality of life within the global community. The Lions club contributes to healthcare, drug abuse issues around the world and community building within local clubs. Many people have benefited from The Lions Club since 1917 and since then there are now more than 46, 000 clubs within 193 countries.

This organization has focused on blindness within the world population and have dedicated their resources in undertaking the necessary means to help eliminate the causes of blindness and to also help those who are already disabled by blindness to live productive lives. The Lions Club has enabled many people to contribute to their local communities and through this the organization has been able to reach millions of people worldwide.

Youth development is an important part of the aims of Lions Club International. There are many opportunities, which are available to youth both within and outside of the organization. The Lions Club provides special programs of opportunities to empower youth, such as the Lions International Peace Poster Competition, Leo Club Youth Programs, Lions International Youth Camp, Lions Youth Outreach Program and the Lions International Youth Exchange Program.

• Sight First- a program geared towards the prevention of blindness around the world
• Offering services and aid to the blind such as white canes, guide dogs, and training for employment opportunities
• Sight- restoring corneal transplants each year for nearly 20, 000 people
• Youth camps, youth exchanges and sponsorship of youth programs such as the Leo Club
• Lions- Quest program which teaches youth to make responsible decisions concerning drugs and alcohol
• Leadership programs
• The building of community assets such as hospitals, parks and playgrounds
• Disaster Relief

There are many chapters of Lions Club International within Jamaica and the Caribbean. Jamaica also contains other branches of Lions International such as Leo Clubs.
