The Jamaica Co-operative Credit Union League Ltd. is the National Association of Credit Unions with responsibility for the overall direction and co-ordination of the National Credit Union Movement.
The League operates as a representative organisation, policy maker and service provider for all affiliated credit unions in Jamaica and:
a. Serves as the financial centre for credit unions
b. Self-regulates the Movement
c. Trains and develops the leadership and staff of the Movement
d. Lobbies for the most conducive climate for credit unions to operate
e. Represents the Movement nationally, regionally and internationally
f. Promotes and markets the Credit Union Movement and collaboration
among co-operatives
g. Co-ordinates the implementation of the National Credit Union Strategic
Plan
h. Conducts operation audits and assessments of credit unions and
recommends improvements where necessary
i. Establishes standards of sound business and financial practices for member
credit unions through the Stabilisation Programme
j. Provides training, operational support and advice on the development of
sound management and financial practices
The Credit Union Movement continues to have a significant impact on the Jamaican society promoting ideas of self-help and community co-operation. Supported by the principles of social enterprise, the League continues to react proactively in the dynamic environment in which the Movement operates.
